As with so many Yogis I have met,
I truly discovered Yoga from the depths of illness.

I was always a career woman….. I had firmly handcuffed myself to the rat wheel of corporate life…. trading all my prana (life force) for a handful of silver.

Not knowing myself well enough to heed the early warning signs, I eventually came face-to-face with Grave’s disease… heart palpitations, anxiety, muscle wastage, hair loss and exhaustion became my constant companions.

I was now burning through my prana at maximum speed!

Eighteen months of conventional Western medical treatment left me feeling powerless, ill-informed and more sick than ever. The only thing that made me feel better during this time was Yoga… particularly YogaNidra! Yoga practice seemed to soothe my jangling nerves and brought some desperately needed rest and healing into my depleted life.

In my newfound evangelical state for Yoga….

I just knew I had found something amazing!

I just knew I needed to be doing this every day!

AND

I just knew a lot of other people could really benefit from it too!

I had become too sick to work and so had already stepped (or staggered) out of the rat wheel so…

I also just knew I needed a new career

I chose to become a Satyananda Yoga Teacher!

Two and a half years of full-time training gave me a glimpse of the vastness of Yoga, a solid Sadhana of my own and a firm foundation in Exercise Science. The emphasis was on the development of our own sadhana first – teaching only what we practice ourselves. It was only once I had finished my training and began teaching that I realised my training to become a Yoga teacher had only just begun!

The Satyananda tradition of Yoga has a strong focus on serving the communities in which it finds itself.

Being a full-time Yoga teacher in the community with this focus on service or seva since 2009, has brought with it an amazing diversity of teaching opportunities.

I never tire of watching people transform from stressed, exhausted and unwell people at the beginning of the class…faces pinched, posture slumped and with so little sparkle.. to smiling, calm and yawning people I need to scrape off the floor to send home they are so relaxed.

Helping people to relax & smile is the best job in the world!
